For those of you who don’t know- the Backstreet Boys re-grouped in Japan, where they still perform and release songs. There are 4 of them though, I don’t know if that is how many there always are or if someone left, but yeah. This MV is from one of their Japanese albums.
The song is admitting defeat after a fight, telling the girl she has more honor in the argument and that she is “bigger”, meaning she is the right one and the better one. They promise to make it up to her some how, and tell her she really is the best for always giving them a second chance.
“Cause you don’t care/ you keep sticking around/ while I’m acting a clown/ you’re bigger than me/ lalalalalalala/ cause you’re still here/ your feet stuck to the ground/ despite how silly it sounds/ you’re bigger than me”
I kind of remember Backstreet Boys dancing in some of their songs, but for the most part they are a stationary group.
The MV follows the members around to different places and during different activities. They go to one of those cafe’s where the girls are dressed as maids, go to Karaoke with friends, go shopping and to an arcade, and a lot of shots are just individual members around Japan.
I was kind of skeptical when I first heart that they were still performing, I’ll admit, but this is a good sound for them. They seem more settled as a group and more relaxed than when they performed in the US. I’ve read interviews with foreign artists from tons of different countries where they have said that if you can survive in the US Market you’re gold anywhere, because it is really brutal. I’m sure music is always hard, but whatever is different between our market and Japan’s seems to really have done wonders for the group. They aren’t super skinny anymore (but I’m sure there are a few six packs in there) and the overall relaxed atmosphere of the video really fits them.
Seriously, taking a few years off and then making their comeback in a different country was probably the best move they’ve ever made.
